Success Stories!

The world continues to face extraordinary challenges because of poverty, natural disaster, war and covid-19.

The health and safety of the very vulnerable are always at incredible risk - today more so than in recent history. While many other organizations backed out due to safety concerns, HRI forged ahead and lives were saved as a result.

HRI program beneficiaries face extreme adversity, fear, and insecurity. The poorest of the poor most often get left behind in crises that affect us globally, but HRI is working diligently to keep as many people safe and healthy as possible – starting with orphans and vulnerable children.

Thanks to our generous partners, HRI has gone above and beyond the past few years to bring a dozen new education, prevention, relief and development programs which collectively save lives and transform the futures of thousands of people every year – and all while maintaining our regular programming. HRI has been able to expand our reach exponentially to serve people impacted by multiple crises the past few years including Covid, earthquakes, hurricanes, civil unrest, war and the worst level of poverty and malnutrition we've seen in decades!

Earthquake Relief

When a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Haiti in August 2021, you stepped up - you gave and gave again, so that HRI could reach victims and their families quickly and with what was needed most. Your gifts enabled HRI to provide 3,000 survival kits within days of this tragedy. And in the subsequent weeks, we distributed over 31,000 meals and 4,000 gallons of safe drinking water to families who had not yet received any assistance, people all but forgotten in the midst of so much tragedy and loss! Your compassion, your hearts and your giving saved lives! Thank you for your confidence in HRI and our commitment to those who need us most. Please take a few minutes to watch this video - you made all of this a reality.

Covid-19 pandemic Prevention & Education

When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, HRI increased our programs and services to serve thousands of more people through prevention and education activities. HRI reached 21,000 individuals every month in Haiti and Guatemala with short messages about Covid, how to stay safe, and how to support one another and healthcare workers. HRI constructed and distributed 125 handwashing stations for people in slum communities and for all 18 HRI supported orphanages in Haiti. We hosted several trainings and assisted Haitian women to establish cottage businesses including the production of high-quality masks and cleaning disinfectants that they then sold in response to the great demand and to generate income for their families. We trained 100 Good Health Ambassadors to go into their communities and share critical information about the virus, how it is spread and how families can protect themselves and their loved ones. And of course, at the same time, we continued our very important work with orphans and vulnerable children - educating them on how to be safe from, but not fearful of, Covid-19.‍
