Preventable illness burdens urban and rural communities across the world at a staggering rate. Children often suffer the most serious and long-lasting effects from chronic, preventable health conditions. These illnesses are often water-borne, mosquito-borne, respiratory, or are related to inadequate sanitation and hygiene practices.
HRI is actively implementing a holistic approach to tackle these contributing factors as we strive to eliminate hunger and malnutrition. HRI meal programs, combined with medical support, access to clean water and education, and trainings on nutrition, sanitation and hygiene ensure people no longer suffer from the various effects of hunger and that they receive the basic nutrition they need to learn, grow and thrive.
HRI is building upon partnerships with other organizations such as Vitamin Angels and Hope for Haiti to ensure that local health clinics have the medical supplies, equipment and medications needed to ensure good basic healthcare for young children and mothers.

Maternal and child health is key to the growth and development of children and for the eventual economic growth of a country. In Haiti, most children are raised by single mothers and have little or no access to healthcare.

Installing new and improved sanitary facilities in places that need it most is one of our health priorities. This includes different toilet designs including safe pit-latrines, flush toilets and composting toilets, depending on the best option for each situation. The goal is to ensure that human waste is being captured and managed properly while providing dignity to women and young developing girls.
