Maternal and child health is key to the growth and development of children and for the eventual economic growth of a country. In Haiti, most children are raised by single mothers and have little or no access to healthcare. HRI’s deworming program rids children of parasitic worms, which improves their capacity to absorb critical nutrients, ensures that parasites are not diminishing the benefits of their daily nutrition, and, as a result of better health, serves to improve school enrollment and attendance. Prenatal vitamins are essential for pregnant mothers, especially considering most are undernourished. Together with our partners at Hope for Haiti and Vitamin Angels, HRI is ensuring public health clinics have the medical supplies, equipment and medications they need to provide basic healthcare for young children and mothers.
